Yes, after learning that mel is terrible (tons of boiler plate code required), tried using python but was still limited by some of mel's most annoying parts. Then tried pymel (which is very similar to maxscript) and loved it. Code was easier to read, string/hierarchy/variable management wasn't painful anymore. It's all good. Accidently managed to write mel/pymel hybrid code the first time, it worked without errors somehow.
